HEYBURN  – Clarice Mae Groesbeck, 84, of Heyburn, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on Aug. 23, 1928, to Otto and Lillian Deide.  As an only daughter, she so appreciated her three brothers, Lloyd Milton, Darrell (LaDonna), and Del Deide (Lois).  In 1936, she moved with her family from Iowa to Nampa, later making Caldwell a permanent home in 1937.  Clarice soon learned the responsibilities of running the domestic part of a farm family, and she graduated from Caldwell High in 1947.  She also did clod picking in potato harvest and worked at Evans fly-tying company, snelling hooks.

The skills her mother taught her were passed on to her own family when she met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Thomas Groesbeck, at a dance hall in Caldwell.  She and Dick were married on May 29, 1948, in Nampa, Idaho, and this was the beginning of a lifetime of togetherness and Clarice’s work as Dick’s full-time cook.  Dick’s profession took the family to parts of Montana: Missoula, Boulder, Helena, and Great Falls.  Born to this union in 1949, was daughter, Cathy (Jerald Kraus), and in 1953, son, Jerry (Terry).  In 1959, Dick’s work brought them back to Idaho, where they settled in the Mini-Cassia area.

There were seldom times when you saw Dick without Clarice, although they went to their own coffee shops.  Clarice enjoyed making life-long friends, and her sense of humor brightened a room; she never forgot the punch line of a joke.  She was a member and past president of the Rupert Lady Elks and Rupert Country Club.  Her hobbies included bowling and golfing, for which she won many awards.  She enjoyed snow skiing with her friends and family, but excelled at waterskiing and teaching others how to get up and stay up in the water.  Another past time was out-fishing Dick, and beating anyone at Gin Rummy.  We will all remember her excellent cooking  –  no one could make a peanut brittle like her, and so many were treated to her three layer German chocolate cakes on their birthdays.  This May, Dick and Clarice would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

She has four grandchildren, Lynn (Dan Boberg), Lisa, Tina, and Nicholas (Shanna Kraus); and six great-grandchildren:  Bobergs:  Natalie, Julia, and Kira; Tina Kraus: Jillian; and Nick Kraus:  Karter and Kate.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Guy and Eva Groesbeck; one brother, Lloyd Milton Deide; her grandson, Jerald Matthew Kraus; and two nephews, Roger Deide, and Mark Deide.

We will miss you Mom (Granny Goose),  Love you more!

The funeral was held Thursday, April 18, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley.

In lieu of flowers, Clarice requested that you make a donation to your local animal shelter or a dog rescue organization.

Condolences to the family may be mailed to Rasmussen Funeral Home, P.O. Box 878, Burley, ID 83318

Obituary: Frank Cecil Toner

BURLEY  –  Frank Cecil Toner, 97, passed away at his home in Burley on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

Cecil was born on July 31, 1915, in Burley, Idaho, the son of Frank Brown and Ethel Wolfe Toner.  The family farmed south of Burley, and when Cecil was 3 years of age, the family sold the farm and moved to California.  His father went in search of work, eventually stopping in Yakima, Washington, where his family joined him.  Dad finished the first grade there.  Due to Depression times, the farm was turned back to his dad, so the family returned to Burley where they farmed the original farm, with additional farms being added.

Dad graduated from Burley High School with the class of 1933, after which he went to a mechanic school in Portland, Oregon.  He returned to Burley to farm with his father on the family  dairy farm.

Cecil met Clarice Emma Brady, who just happened to be a close neighbor.  Upon her graduation from high school, they married on Oct. 30, 1941, and to this union came four children, Bill (Dorothy) Toner, Betty (Ivan) Olsen, David (Susan) Toner, and Darice (Paul) Okelberry.

After retirement, Dad continued to help his son, Dave, on the farm, swathing hay and topping beets until into his early 90s.  Dave always said he couldn’t retire until his dad quit farming!  Dad took great pride in his beautiful vegetable garden each year, growing one even last summer.  We all attribute his ethics of hard work and deep moral character to his longevity.

Mother and Dad enjoyed traveling together, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, and several trips across the United States where they met and made many lifelong friends.  They maintained a home in Quartzsite, Arizona, for nearly 40 years, where they enjoyed the winter months and getting to know and learning to love the countless friends they made there.  During those months, they became rock hounds and silver smiths, creating beautiful jewelry, and their stained glass and etched glass creations were a wonder to behold.

The great pleasures of Dad’s life revolved around his family.  We all have precious memories of the many fishing and camping trips and the many family gatherings with extended family.

Cecil is survived by his loving wife of nearly 72 years, Clarice Toner of Burley; his children, Bill (Dorothy) Toner of Burley, Betty (Ivan) Olsen of Clarkston, Wash., David (Susan) Toner of Burley, and Darice Okelberry of Twin Falls; two sisters, Marjorie Leifchner of Burley, and Nadine (Dow) Rathbun of Twin Falls; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and an infant sister; two great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Paul Okelberry.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where friends and family may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 13, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.  Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery.

BURLEY  –  Robert D. Bronson was born in Burley, Idaho, the son of Robert M. and Lucille Margaret Peacock Bronson, on Sept. 17, 1943.  He died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the age of 69.

He graduated from Burley High School in 1961 and went to Idaho State University for the next four and a half years. Bob was drafted into the United States Army at this time, training in Arlington, Texas, and later being deployed to Tokyo, Japan. While in Japan he worked at the United States Army Hospital, Kishine. He married Mitsuko Mori on Nov 29, 1968.

They returned to Burley, Idaho in 1969, where he started to work with his father in the business of ranching and farming.  Bob and Mitsuko spent summers at the ranch working to clear ground or fencing. He dedicated his time and effort to being a good steward of the land and knew sagebrush, cedar trees, and noxious weeds would not produce fat and healthy livestock.

Bob and Mitsuko have two children, Sean and Nicole (Josh Liddiard).

Bob served as the first chairperson for Cassia County Public Lands Committee. He served on the West Cassia Soil and Water Conservation District board of supervisors for 11 years, serving as chairman for two terms.  He also served as a S.W.C.D. Division IV officer. He was asked by the Cassia County commissioners to be the representative for Cassia County for the Animal Damage Control Board, he served on the Noxious Weed Committee for Cassia County and served on the Steering Committee for the Idaho Snake River Plain USDA Water Quality Demonstration Project.  He also served as the project officer for the Managed Aquifer Recharge of the Oakley Fan Area. In 1998, he was nominated and received an award for Grassman of the Year for the State of Idaho.

Bob enjoyed fishing but truly loved to go hunting. He hunted elk, caribou, bear, deer, and pheasant. He enjoyed spending time at the ranch and even built a fishpond. Bob got a kick out of taking his five grand kids fishing. He would carefully bait each hook with a worm and help them cast their line.  Around the fishpond he transplanted elderberry bushes and each fall the family would go harvest these berries and make syrup. Bob enjoyed collecting ranch and farm antiques and liked to show his latest discovery to family and friends. He brought home old bottles, date nails, and other great finds.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mitsuko Bronson of Burley; his children, Sean Bronson, and Nicole (Josh) Liddiard all of Burley; his father, Bob Bronson Sr., and his wife, Jane Bronson of Burley; his siblings, Kristi (Jim) Kingma of Grangeville, Idaho, and Brent (Sandy) Bronson of Denver, Colo.; and five grandchildren, Michael Bronson, Aiden Liddiard, Khali Liddiard, Anika Liddiard, and Ethan Liddiard.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille M. Bronson; and one brother, Karl Bronson.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, at the View LDS Church, 490 E. 550 S., of Burley, with Bishop Art Thornton officiating.  Military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 9 until 9:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
